BPME1013 - Introduction to Entrepreneurship

Business Progress

From initial concept to successful execution, SaSa Dessert represents our complete entrepreneurial journey in BPME1013. Starting with market research and business planning, we developed a student-focused cake business that serves the UUM community. Through challenges in operations, marketing, and customer service, we've grown from a simple idea to a thriving enterprise with 70+ satisfied customers. This documentation captures our learning process, strategic decisions, financial management, and the valuable lessons learned as we conclude this entrepreneurial venture.

Special thanks to Dr. Maliani Binti Mohamad for her guidance in BPME1013

As the manager of the SaSa Dessert project, I gained valuable experience in running a small business. I learned how to effectively communicate and negotiate with suppliers to ensure quality products at reasonable costs. I also learned how to plan the business carefully to avoid losses, including creating a detailed business plan and calculating cash flow statements to manage finances efficiently. Managing the team taught me leadership skills, such as assigning tasks based on individual strengths, motivating team members, and coordinating work to meet deadlines. Additionally, I gained insights into marketing strategies, customer engagement, and inventory management, which helped the business run smoothly and reach our target market successfully. Overall, this experience strengthened my skills in business planning, financial management, team leadership, and problem-solving.

The Sasa Dessert project has been a rewarding journey, filled with both challenges and milestones. From the excitement, I’ve learned the importance of understanding our market and collaborating with a great team. The successful launch of our first product boosted my confidence and motivated me to keep pushing forward. As we continue to grow, I’m excited to expand our offerings and apply the lessons I’ve learned to future opportunities.

I didn’t expect much at first, but running this cake business was actually quite enjoyable. I mainly handled the money and delivery, so I got to experience what it’s like to manage things properly while making sure orders reach customers. Sometimes it was tiring, especially when there were many orders, but it helped me become more responsible and organised.

Going into this cake business, I honestly thought it would be simple, but once it started, I realised there was more to it than I expected. I was the one handling deliveries and dealing with the customer, so my days were filled with picking up cakes, planning routes, and making sure everything went smoothly. Some days were tiring, especially when orders kept coming, but there was also a sense of satisfaction every time a cake reached the customer safely. Through this experience, I learned how to be more organised, patient, and responsible, and it made me appreciate the effort behind even a small business.

Through the SaSa Dessert project, I gained practical experience in marketing a small food business in a real environment. This project helped me understand how marketing strategies must match customer needs, especially when targeting university students. I learned the importance of identifying the right target market and using suitable marketing channels. By focusing on students, we used WhatsApp promotions, posters, and attractive cake photos to reach customers effectively. This taught me that simple and direct marketing can be very powerful.

Through the SaSa Dessert project, I gained hands-on experience in promoting a small food business in a real market environment. I learned how important it is to understand customer preferences, especially when targeting university students. By using WhatsApp, simple posters, and attractive cake photos, we were able to reach customers effectively. This experience showed me that clear messages and appealing visuals play an important role in attracting customers and increasing sales.

As a final-year Computer Science student at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), I’ve spent many long nights studying and wishing for a sweet treat to keep me going. That personal experience with late-night cravings is exactly why I’m so passionate about Sasa Dessert. Now, serving as the Customer Service Manager, I love bridging the gap between the delicious offerings from Mum's Heritage House and my fellow UUM peers. My goal is to ensure that every student who reaches out to us feels heard and gets their favorite cake delivered fast, turning a stressful study session into a much-needed dessert break.

Honestly, I didn’t expect this project to turn into something so cool. SaSa Dessert started as just an idea, but it taught me a lot like how to deal with real customers, make smart decisions, and work as a team. Seeing people enjoy what we made was the best part. It wasn’t always easy, but every challenge helped me grow. Proud of what we’ve done, and excited to see where this kind of experience can take me next.
